General information about Tok and the library:
There are about 1258 year-round residents in Tok. The climate is subarctic desert at an elevation of 1635 feet. There is no local government, so the Tok Community Library Association was formed in 1955 as a volunteer nonprofit organization to provide library services for the community. The library is currently located in the big log building at the interesection of the Tok Cutoff and Alaska Highway.

The Tok Community Library is 100% volunteer operated; there are no paid employees to open the library. We always need more volunteers, so if you have a couple of hours a week that you can donate on a regular schedule, we would love to train you so that you can open the library during those hours. Call Kathy (listed in the contacts information) to schedule training and volunteer hours.
Books for sale:
One of the ways we raise money to pay operating expenses is by selling donated books. If you have books you no longer wish to keep, please consider donating them to the library. If they fit our collection policy, they will be placed on the shelves for people to borrow. Duplicates of volumes we already have and books that don't fit the collection policy are offered for sale. Patron computers and Internet Access:
Thanks to an FY 2011 ILC State grant from the State Library, we now have two beautiful new computers for patron use and Internet access, and we also now have WiFi access for those who prefer to use their own laptop.
One of the new computers is an HP with Windows 7, and the other is a Macintosh with Snow Leopard; both are networked to print to a color LaserJet printer.
Imagination Library
The Tok Community Library, Tok Headstart and Tok School are coordinating their resources to make the Imagination Library available to children of the area.
This program sends a book each month to each enrolled child from birth to five years old. For more details on the program, see the Upper Tanana Imagination Library Web site.
Story Hour
The second Tuesday of each month during the summer, in conjunction with the Imagination Library, there is a story hour with activities for kids and parents. It's a lot of fun, so come and join us!
